76ers sign free agent BattieBasketball Betting Lines07/21/2010 - PHILADELPHIA (AP) -The Philadelphia 76ers have signed free-agent center Tony Battie. Team president Ed Stafanski said Wednesday that the 76ers want Battie to provide frontcourt depth and a ``veteran presence'' for younger players. Terms of his contract were not disclosed. The 6-foot-11 Battie has averaged 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds over 12 NBA seasons. He has also appeared in 51 playoff games and was a member of the Orlando Magic's Eastern Conference title team in 2008-09. Also, he could have some added motivation to put up big numbers this season with the Eagles using their first pick in the draft on McNabb’s future successor Kevin Kolb. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.
